What this level is designed to teach
Young Builders is the proposed programme for 9–11 years, with 65–75 minutes guided sessions. Teaching priorities: Events, loops, pair debugging, simple robot path. By the end, the learner should be able to present a project such as three-level game; quiz app; obstacle robot, and explain at least one problem they solved.
Eight-session progression and evidence
| Week | Theme | Age-appropriate deliverable |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Imagine and start | Sketch level order and first player |
| 2 | Build the world/interface | Build three challenge scenes or home screens |
| 3 | Control and response | Add events/loops and player action |
| 4 | Rules and objectives | Add points/quiz conditions and success checks |
| 5 | Feedback and accessibility | Add instructions/contrast/accessibility |
| 6 | Find and fix defects | Partner playtest; record and fix one bug |
| 7 | Prepare a version | Save named version; check restart |
| 8 | Private showcase | Demonstrate game/app/robot in pairs |
Allowed tools and safety boundaries
Scratch desktop/managed Scratch; optional micro:bit MakeCode; simple adult-supervised low-voltage robot in pairs. No public social accounts.
Finished project acceptance
- Runnability on the approved workshop device.
- An original child-made idea or improvement that the learner can explain.
- At least one recorded or explained test, including what was expected.
- One adjustment made because of feedback or a defect.
- Local safe project packaging and only opt-in guardian-approved private sharing.
Facilitator and guardian notes
Age is a default placement guide, not a test of worth or ability. The host and parent can choose accommodations, quiet presentation and slower pace. A workshop is not independent childcare, a credit-bearing qualification or a commercial data contribution. The original blueprint is a proposal: there are no confirmed dates, named registered students or verified screening outcomes to publish.
Build with the Building Truss Grid
Use BTG Builder's kit and Free Build learning plan to assemble a small structure from approved components, check connector orientation, fix a mismatch and explain the result.
These are proposed supervised lessons linked to the evolving application, not proof of an available public app or scheduled workshop. Explore BTG Builder's full engineering design and current release status →
